Lateef focuses solely on tenor saxophone here as he moved away from hard-bop toward more exploratory horizons.
The sides feature a lesser-known but remarkably cohesive quintet: Vincent Pitts (trumpet), John Harman (piano), Ray McKinny (bass), and Clifford Jarvis or George Scott (drums).
The eight-track set blends soulful swing with post-bop, highlighted by Pitts’ originals “Soul Blues” and “Trudy’s Delight,” alongside a vibrant take on Charlie Parker’s “Dexterity.” A collectors edition exclusively for Record Store Day 2026.
